Govt delivers on pledges, says Aslam

The reason why he is advocating a second term for president Solih is because he is the only one who was able to sustain a coalition.

Planning minister Mohamed Aslam said on Saturday that this government does not make empty promises and knows how to celebrate after fulfilling its pledges.

Aslam made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony held on Saturday evening to inaugurate the new office built by Fenaka in F. Magoodhoo and inaugurate the water and sewerage system in the island.

Aslam said the biggest difference of this government is that people do not have to attend inauguration functions for projects, and only attend the ceremonies which celebrate work completion.

"We make promises, we don't show dreams. We know how to fulfil the promise and celebrate that," Aslam said at the ceremony, which was also attended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Aslam said the housing ministry alone has completed projects worth MVR 4.5 billion. He said the government was working on the president's vision that "the country's engine should not stop".

Aslam said:

  • The cabinet is not concerned with "making headlines"

  • When something has to be done, it is only talked about after it has been done

  • Rival politicians are planning to make the country centrally focused

  • The reason why he is advocating a second term for President Solih is because he is the only one who was able to sustain a coalition; that it is very difficult for Maldivian leaders to do
