Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas has denied President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s claim that he is not supporting the government's development efforts in his constituency.
In a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, Abbas said he had not taken any action to obstruct development projects and reiterated that his work is focused on serving the people of his constituency.
“The pain that has not been inflicted on this body in the last 18 years of politics is being inflicted today,” Abbas said.
He stated that he voted in favour of the government's budget and had actively approached state institutions with the development needs of the three islands in the constituency.
“I attended the signing ceremony of all the projects that will be laid in the three villages of the constituency today and tomorrow,” Abbas said.
He added that he had not made any remarks against the government and did not intend to do so.
“We don't ask any government official for anything that involves personal interest… then what's the obstruction?” he asked.
President Muizzu, who is currently visiting Noonu Atoll, earlier criticised Abbas for failing to support government-led development projects in the constituency, stating that opposition MPs had shown more cooperation.
