Most student loan applications for aviation subjects

Complaints should be filed with the [email protected] through e-mail

Higher education Ministry on Wednesday said that most of the students who applied for higher education and training loans have applied for education in the aviation sector.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced on Wednesday that all those eligible who applied for a government loan for higher education in the Maldives and abroad will be given the loan.

At a press conference held at the President's Office on Thursday to provide more information, higher education minister Ibrahim Hassan said the president's decision to extend loans to all eligible students was a big relief to the applicants and their families.

This year's student loan scheme:

  • 720 higher education and training loan applications opened

  • 1,507 applicants

  • 1,225 students met eligibility criteria; all of them will get loans

  • Should start studying within 17 months of the loan being disbursed

  • This year, new diploma sector has opened up

  • Free first degree students can arrange other expenses

  • Students who had taken loans earlier, but had dropped out due to external reasons, were offered top-up loans

  • Also open for PhD admissions to build skilled people

The minister said that most of the students who applied for this year's loan were those who applied for loans to study piloting.He note:

  • 479 students applied for the loan 

  • Increase in training of Maldivians in this sector will boost the country's aviation sector

In addition:

  • For the 120 opportunities opened for top-up loans, 78 students applied, including more pilot students; all the applicants were given the opportunity, while 24 students applied.

  • Seven students applied for other licences; most of them applied for education in airport maintenance licences, air traffic control and shipping licences.

  • 133 loans to study MBBS

  • 51 loans for admission to post-graduate medicine

  • 26 loans for PhD

  • 26 loans for other areas in the National Training List: 10 diploma loans, five degree loans and one master's loan

The minister said the provisional results of the loan will be released on the ministry's website on Thursday and the final results will be publicised on July 22 after allowing complaints to be filed.

The minister said that if all the complaints are considered separately and the criteria is met, the applicant will get the loan.
