Salary hike for lecturers: from MVR 18,880 to 29,900

He said the change in salaries of education workers was done with the same idea.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday made public the changes in the salaries of university lecturers as part of its decision to revise their salaries. With these changes, salaries that were at MVR 18,880 earlier will become MVR 29,900 by this month's salary.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that the salaries of university lecturers will be revised. The president announced the details of the changes in Th. Hirilandhoo on Thursday.

With the change in the salary of lecturers of universities, academic professionals working in national universities, Islamic universities and polytechnics will now get the revised higher salaries, he said.

According to the president:

  • Earlier, a lecturer at a national university got MVR 18,880

  • From this month onwards, MVR 29,900 per month without overtime pay; this is a 59% increase

In addition:

  • The salary of senior lecturers increased from MVR 20,830 to MVR 34,000. The salary of assistant professors has been hiked from MVR 23,500 to MVR 39,400

  • The salary of professors has increased from MVR 26,000 to MVR 45,000

In addition, the salaries of those working at the management level have also been revised.

Here's a look at the change in salaries of employees at the management level:

  • The salary of dean/head of centre hiked from MVR 30,000 to MVR 38,000

  • Registrar's salary hiked from MVR 32,000 to MVR 42,000

  • The salary of deputy vice-chancellors hiked from MVR 39,000 to MVR 48,000

Salary changes for vocational training professionals:

  • The salary of associate lecturers hiked from MVR 14,700 to MVR 26,000

  • The salary of lecturers hiked from MVR 17,000 to MVR 29,000

  • The salary of senior lecturers hiked from MVR 17,000 to MVR 34,000

Speaking at the 71st anniversary celebrations of Th. Hirilandhoo School, President Solih said that the first foundation for creating a good and responsible person is to make the educators work in an environment conducive to it.

He said the change in salaries of education workers was done with the same idea.

He said that the pay revision would lead to a change in the salaries of 767 employees. He said MVR 62 million would be spent annually to pay salaries.

"The positive results of this change will be seen in universities and vocational training centres," he said.

Delivering the presidential address at the opening ceremony of the Parliament this year, President Solih said that the salaries of health workers will be increased in May.
