Over 1,000 students eligible for govt student loan
Ministry announced that only 10 students will be given loans to study aviation this year as the country does not generate the same number of jobs for pilots.

The Higher Education Ministry has decided to give loans to all the eligible students out of 1,709 who applied for higher education and training loans.
A total 500 higher education and training loan opportunities were opened this year. However, the government decided to issue loans to all the eligible students who applied.
Addressing a press conference here, the Higher Education Minister Dr Maryam Maria said 1,015 eligible students will be given loans.
The list of students who will receive the loans has now been made public and will be available on the ministry's website, she said.
Students who have applied for pilot licensing will have provisional results and official results in other areas will be there too, the ministry said.
The deadline for any complaints is the 25th of this month.

The ministry said the opportunities will be given on merit basis. The opportunities will be given at the Aviation Academy run by the national carrier Maldivian (IAS) in Addu.
