Man's finger crushed in construction site accident

A relative of the victim told Atoll Times on Sunday said that an iron rod fell from the building where the Euro store shop is located on Chaandhanee Magu.

An iron rod fell from a building under construction in Male on Saturday, crushing the toe of a passerby.

Police said a 38-year-old local man was injured in the incident.

Police received a call around 3.37pm on Saturday saying that a man was injured after an object fell on him while he was riding past the construction site on Chaandhanee Magu.

  • Construction work at the building, which has 10 storeys, is ongoing at the top most two floors

  • Police did not identify the contractor, but Atoll Times has learnt that Batch Construction workers were carrying out the works

As far as the building is concerned, there is safety netting on the side of the working floors, but there is no net on the Chaandhanee Magu side of the building.

A relative of the victim told Atoll Times on Sunday said that an iron rod fell from the building where the Euro store shop is located on Chaandhanee Magu.

Police and family members said the victim is undergoing further treatment at ADK.

"His feet was injured. The toe was completely crushed. He underwent one surgery last night," said the family member.

Police said they are investigating the matter further.
