Wall collapse damages house in Malé construction site

A boundary wall of a house under construction in Malé has collapsed, causing damage to a neighbouring residence.
The incident occurred at a site where the house named M. Hawaiige is being rebuilt. The wall fell onto the adjacent property, M. Thakandhooge, resulting in damage to the building. The wall measured approximately seven feet in height and 70 feet in length.
A resident of Thakandhooge stated that the wall collapsed on their side of the house earlier today. Several windows were broken, and a glass table inside the house was also damaged. No injuries were reported.
According to the resident, the wall had been unstable since the demolition of the old building at Hawaiige began. They said the wall and the house shook during the demolition and construction phases, raising concerns about the wall’s stability.

The resident also said that the wall had previously collapsed during construction, injuring a person at that time.
The Maldives Police Service and Malé City Council are investigating the incident. The extent of the damage to the house will be determined following the official assessment.
