Central bank tip-off led to RDC graft probe

Police initiated an investigation into the deposit of huge amounts of money into the account of a senior head of the Road Development Corporation (RDC) after the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the central bank lodged a complaint, it has been learnt.
Several media outlets reported on Tuesday that RDC's managing director Moosa Ali Manik and chief financial officer Yasir Hasan its had allegedly siphoned off company funds. According to reports:

While Moosa denied the allegations in a tweet Tuesday evening, the police also confirmed that they were looking into a case related to the RDC. The police, however, refused to divulge any details.
A reliable source confirmed to Atoll Times on Wednesday that the matter was brought to the notice of the police by Maldives Monetary Authority's (MMA) FIU.
The FIU, an operationally independent unit mandated and established by the anti-money laundering legislation, is the central national agency for receiving, analysing and disseminating information concerning money laundering activities, terrorism financing activities and proceeds of crime.
The main function of FIU is to receive financial transaction reports from various reporting institutions, analyse them and, as appropriate, disseminate valuable financial information to law enforcement agencies and regulatory authorities.
The FIU is responsible for coordinating and strengthening efforts of national and international stakeholders in pursuing the global efforts against money laundering and terrorism financing.
