Deputy finance minister Mohamed Firzul Hussain Firaz resigned from his post on Thursday.
Firzul was appointed deputy finance minister in January 2019 on a slot of MDP, the main party in the ruling coalition. He is also a board member of Regional Airports Company.
Firzul told Atoll Times that he resigned from his post due to lack of time for the ministry's work.
"The responsibilities of the ministry need to be given a lot of time. At the moment, I would like to focus on my own works," he said.
Firzul said he would continue to sit on the board on Regional Airports Company.
Firzul is the second person to resign from a senior position at the finance ministry. Financial Controller Fathimath Razeena also resigned from her post early this week for the stated reason of going abroad for PhD studies.
