Main opposition PPM/PNC on Monday announced the launch of the campaign of its presidential candidate Abdulla Yameen in all the islands of the country.
The former president was handed over the coalition's presidential ticket on August 19.
However, Yameen was convicted of money laundering and accepting a bribe over the leasing of V. Aarah as part of the MMPRC corruption scandal and sentenced to 11 years in prison on December 25.
The appeal against the verdict is ongoing in the High Court.
The PPM-PNC coalition launched the campaign in 16 islands las week. The party's leadership has held online meetings with campaign teams in the islands to launch the campaigns.
Yameen's campaign manager did not answer the phone, so details of the campaign could not be obtained. The coalition did not disclose details of the campaign.
Yameen's presidential campaign is being conducted under the slogan of 'Dhivehinnge Raajje' or Maldives for Maldivians. Door-to-door campaigns have now begun in Male.
