Yameen's appeal hearings delayed as judge on leave

Hearings in the appeal filed over the 11-year jail sentence handed to former President Abdulla Yameen in the V. Aarah lease have been delayed owing to one of the judges of the High Court bench being on family leave, the PPM/PNC leadership said on Tuesday.
The PPM/PNC leadership on Tuesday went to the High Court to share their concerns over the delays in scheduling hearings in the appeal, with 12 days left for the presidential election nomination process.
After the meeting, Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef told reporters that the court had said that appeal hearings were delayed because a judge was on family responsibility leave.
The Criminal Court on December 25 convicted Yameen of money laundering and accepting a bribe, and sentenced him to 11 years in jail.
