Maldives, India ink pacts for 9 socio-economic projects

Maldives and India on Tuesday signed a number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to implement projects across various sectors including health, fisheries.
The agreements were signed at a ceremony held in Indian capital New Delhi, and presided by visiting Maldivian foreign minister Abdulla Shahid and his Indian counterpart Dr S. Jaishankar.
At the ceremony, Maldivian high commissioner in India Ibrahim Shaheeb and Indian high commissioner in Maldives Munu Mahawar exchanged nine MoUs to implement socio-economic development projects throughout the Maldives under the High Impact Community Development Project scheme grant funding from India. These projects include:

Development of mental health unit at R. Ungoofaaru Hospital

Development of volley court in Sh. Kanditheemu

Establishment of neighbourhood fish processing factory in M. Dhiggaru

Procurement of furniture and equipment for Sh. Foakaidhoo Community Centre

School digitalisation project in Th. Vilufushi

Upgrading of F. Nilandhoo Hospital and school computer lab

Ha. Utheemu palace roof preservation and development of palace surroundings project

Shahid is in New Delhi from Sunday to Tuesday, at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Dr S Jaishankar.
According to the Maldivian foreign ministry, official talks will be held between the two foreign ministers, on all aspects of the traditionally close friendly relations between the Maldives and India.
Both ministers will discuss on ongoing and future development projects in the Maldives and on strengthening the international cooperation.
