President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said on Thursday that he has ensured independence of independent institutions in his five-year term, which is nearing completion.
President Solih is currently campaigning in Haa Alifu atoll for the presidential election. During this two-day visit to the atoll, the president reached Kelaa island Thursday afternoon and met with MDP supporters in the island.
Speaking at the meeting, President Solih said the government has done a lot to establish a safe society and good governance.
"We have not influenced the functioning of independent institutions in the past five years. Each institution has been using its legal authority," he said.
The president said that people sometimes call him and ask him to resolve issues in a particular way. However, that is not possible, he said.
"For example, how can I call the ACC to decide a case and tell them to decide a case a particular way? That is not something I can do. The ACC will do things within their legal framework”.
