Criminal Court is hearing two additional charges against him linked to the MMPRC corruption scandal
Adam Shameem, one of Yameen's attorneys, tweeted on Saturday evening that they have filed a constitutional motion because Yameen’s several fundamental rights and electoral rights have been violated due to the pending appeal in the High Court.
Shameem said that since Yameen is the presidential candidate of one of the biggest political parties in Maldives, those rights should be guaranteed.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders have called on the authorities to postpone the presidential election slated for September 9 until a decision is taken on the candidacy of their jailed leader, former president Abdulla Yameen.
