The Democrats said on Wednesday that it is difficult to work together with the opposition PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz because of the ideological differences between the two sides.
The Democrats spokesperson, Mahchangolhi North MP Imthiyaz Fahumy said this at a meeting held at the party's office at Maizandhoshuge, in response to a question from a journalist at a press conference.
At the press conference on Sunday, Imthiyaz had made a statement that suggested that Democrats would not back the PPM-PNC in a second round of the presidential election.

It is a decision that the entire party must make, but it will not be easy for ordinary Democrats to work with Muizz, Imthiyaz said
-
Meanwhile, MDP presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih's campaign spokesperson Mariya Ahmed Didi on Tuesday described Muizz as a candidate of the religious organization Salaf
When asked about it at the Democrats' press conference on Wednesday, Imthiyaz agreed with Mariya and described Muizz as a Salaf candidate.
“[However], it is difficult [to work with Muizz] because he is very different from our ideology,” Imthiyaz said.
He said The Democrats can only work with those who share the party's philosophies.
"We think we can work with people who share the ideology of The Democrats. That's why it's difficult [to work with Muizz]," he said.
If more than two candidates are running for president, 50.01% of the vote is required to be elected to office in a single round.
-
If no candidate receives that number of votes, a second round will be held between the two candidates who received the most votes
-
In that case, the candidate who receives the most votes in a second round will be elected president.
