Land scheme includes plots from unreclaimed Hulhumale lagoon area
Draws for plot allocation under the government's Binveriya scheme are ongoing since Tuesday.
Plots awarded from Hulhumale under the government's Binveriya scheme include the area earmarked from the lagoon of Hulhumale phase 2 for land reclamation, it has been learnt.
In May, Atoll Times learnt that the lagoon of second phase is prepped and ready for reclamation.
Reliable sources told Atoll Times that Urbanco was doing the administrative work that was required to drastically alter the master plan to reclaim the lagoon area of Hulhumale Phase 2.
According to sources, the land reclamation will be carried out by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), which also built the Sinamale Bridge.
Draws for plot allocation under the government's Binveriya scheme are ongoing since Tuesday. Some of the recipients have received plots from the area earmarked for reclamation.
When asked about the plan for reclaiming the area and the date on which the reclamation would begin, Urbanco did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
However, it is learnt that preparations are underway to start reclaiming the area.
State housing minister Akram Kamaluddin also said details of the plots would be revealed later.
A total of 1,351 plots will be allotted in Hulhumale under the Binveriya scheme:
-
20 plots for applications of more than eight applicants
-
31 plots for applications of seven
-
60 plots for applications of six
-
100 plots for applications of five
-
180 plots for applications of four
-
370 plots for applications of three
-
340 plots for applications of two
-
250 plots for applications of single applicants
Housing ministry has earlier said that the permanent registration of land will be handed over to all land recipients before November 11.
In July, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that the administration plans to allocate 2,000 housing plots in Gulhifalhu while reserving another 2,000 for the housing scheme in Giraavarufalhu.
Land reclamation in Giraavarufalhu is underway and has already reclaimed 20 hectares of land.
The Binveriya scheme, which is reserved for Male natives, also includes allocating 2,200 plots in Hulhumale, bringing the total number of land plots granted under the plan to 6,200.
