Air ambulance service will be introduced in Maldives to transport patients by air and IVF treatment will be provided free of charge under the Aasandha universal health insurance scheme, PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz said on Wednesday.
The air ambulance service is currently provided by the army via an Indian donated and operated helicopter and Dornier aircraft. VF services are not covered by Aasandha.
Muizz promised to change the two things in his government, speaking at a campaign rally in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.
Speaking at the rally, Muizz said former President Abdulla Yameen's government brought a "development revolution in the health sector". However, the five years of this government show the opposite, he said.
"Therefore, the most important area for development is health. Sea ambulances have been introduced in different parts of the country under his leadership," the opposition candidate said.
"We will hopefully introduce air ambulance services in Maldives”.
Muizz, who was the housing minister in Yameen’s government and is currently the mayor of Male, said he has already gathered information on the air ambulance service to be included in the manifesto in order to introduce it in his government. As such, he said:
-
As part of a pilot project, wheels will be installed on a seaplane and dedicated to use as an air ambulance
“If the pilot project is successful, we will add more aircraft,” he said.
Speaking further at the rally, Muizz said Aasandha has become a major inconvenience for some people. Muizz promised to change these things in his government.
These include:
-
Bring IVF services under Aasandha and provide them free of charge
-
After starting treatment in a foreign hospital, the fees charged in case of transfer to another hospital should be included in Aasandha
"Infertility is a very common problem in the Maldivian society now. However, Aasandha does not cover it. Therefore, we will hopefully add IVF treatment among the services covered by Aasandha," Muizz said.
