The PPM-PNC has made promises to the people with a plan in hand and will not promise what it cannot do, its candidate Dr Mohmmed Muizz said on Saturday.

Muizz is currently campaigning for the second round of the presidential election slated for September 30 in H.A. Filladhoo.

Muizz said he had gone to the islands and made promises after consulting. The purpose of these trips is to present what can be done in real life, he said.

"The whole plan is hopefully envisioned in our minds rather than just a story. It is being presented as a sincere plan of what to do," Muizz said.

Noting that he has spoken at 131 campaign rallies since the beginning of his presidential campaign, Muizz said his speeches and promises are being officially documented. Its purpose is to do what he says he will do if he gets the opportunity to take over, he said.

"I want to fulfil those [promises]. I don't want to forget and run away. I will not show you dreams of something that cannot be done," Muizz said.

At a time when five years of government are over and the people are electing a leader for another five years, when you go to the islands, you see what has not been done in five years. He said the promises made to the people during the campaign should be made with a sincere heart.

Muizz said he knows how to fulfill the promises he makes. Some people ask how he can do these things without power in the economy, he said.

He explained:

  • There is still an experienced economic team that worked in various positions during Yameen's government. There are also new ones to join

  • A step by step economic plan has been prepared

Official results of the presidential election on September 9 show main opposition PPM-PNC's Dr Mohamed Muizz leading the polls with 46%, while President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih secured 39%.

To win outright, a candidate needs more than 50% of the votes. As no candidate crossed the threshold, a runoff between the top two contenders will take place on September 30.
