Opposition PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz on Wednesday pledged to set up dedicated recreational centres for the elderly in different parts of the country, as well as a dedicated agency to promote Maldivian fish products.
Muizz made the remarks while speaking at a rally held in Sh. Funadhoo on Wednesday for the presidential election to be held on September 9.
Muizz said the elderly are serviceable people in many ways and his government will pay special attention to them. Accordingly, dedicated recreational centres will be built in the north, south and central parts of the country, he said.
"They are modern senior centres. They will provide various services. We will hopefully establish special centres for senior citizens in Maldives to provide recreation and various services," he said.
Regarding the fisheries agency, Muizz said that while there are special institutions to promote Maldives's tourism, there are no such agencies to promote Maldives' fisheries. Therefore, his manifesto will include the establishment of a special agency to promote fisheries, he said.
The purpose of the agency, Muizz said, is to promote fisheries products in the global market and facilitate their sales.
"This will provide a very favorable opportunity for fishermen and fishery producers to sell their fishery products to world markets as is done with tourism”, Muizz explained.
