In February 2019, the police announced that they were investigating a money laundering case against Luthufee.
Luthufee resigned on June 26, 2019 after travelling to Malaysia, while the parliament was in the process of removing him from the ACC following the allegations.
Luthufee had said at the time that he had gone abroad because he was being coerced by some influential people in the government to give false testimony against Yameen. The state, however, denied the allegations.
