Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to file charges against a former employee of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) for allegedly defrauding over MVR 500,000 in a bogus land sale scheme.
According to a statement issued by the ACC on Monday, the accused, identified as Futhiha Shakir, used her former position as an estate officer at HDC to orchestrate the fraudulent sale of land in the second phase of Hulhumalé.
The incident, which dates back three years, involved Futhiha falsely claiming to sell 2,600 square feet of land under the name of HDC. She reportedly issued fake payment slips on behalf of the corporation and deceived a private individual into paying a total of MVR 550,000.
The ACC’s investigation found that Futhiha had abused her official position for unlawful personal gain. As part of the legal action, the commission is also seeking the recovery of the funds obtained through the fraudulent transaction.
This case adds to growing concerns about corruption and abuse of public office in state-run institutions.
