Police have seized the phone of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul's brother and MWSC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed in the investigations into an alleged land allocation scandal.
The issue came to light last week after social media reports alleged irregularities in the allocation of land to Fazeel under the government’s housing scheme. The controversy quickly escalated, prompting Fazul’s resignation from his position at HDC on Saturday.
In addition to confiscating Fazeel’s phone, police have searched Fazul’s residence and seized several electronic devices. The passports of 20 individuals, including Fazul and Fazeel, have also been confiscated to prevent them from leaving the country while investigations are ongoing.
During a press conference, police confirmed that Fazeel’s land registration appeared to deviate from standard procedures. Investigations are underway to determine whether corruption or abuse of power was involved in the approval process.
Fazeel was suspended from his position at MWSC when the allegations surfaced. Additionally, 15 senior employees who were terminated amid the scandal were reinstated but remain on suspension as investigations continue.
