Five people were seriously injured, and one is in critical condition after two speedboats collided off the coast of Hulhumale on Friday evening.
The army’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) said the accident occurred at around 8pm when a speedboat of Joy Island Resort, carrying tourists to the airport collided with a speedboat of Leo Trading Company.
The people aboard Leo Trading Company's speedboat sustained the most serious injuries.
According to the MRCC:

There were eight employees and two crew members of the company aboard at the time of the accident

Five of them sustained serious injuries and are being treated at the Hulhumale Hospital

The captain of the speedboat is in critical condition
There were 13 tourists and three crew members on board Joy Island resort’s boat. They sustained minor injuries. The tourists have been dropped off at the airport for departure, the MRCC said.
