Azleen Ahmed, special advisor to the Jumhoory Party (JP) leader Gasim Ibrahim, has been appointed as the secretary general (SG) of the party after Ali Arif decided to resign from the post.
Former Kelaa MP Ali Arif, who has been the party’s SG since 27 August 2019, has not yet submitted his resignation letter. However, he told Atoll Times on Sunday that he will submit a letter of resignation on the same day.
Meanwhile, JP spokesperson Ali Solih said in a message to the media on Sunday that Gasim has appointed Azleen as the SG.
In this regard, Ali Arif told Atoll Times on Sunday that he has decided to resign from the post of SG and is preparing to submit his resignation letter early on Sunday.
He is resigning from the post of SG because he wants to campaign for PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu in the second round of the presidential election September 30.
"The JP has not decided to support any candidate in this round. I am resigning because I do not believe that it is a good idea to do the job while being the JP SG. There is no dissatisfaction between the leader Gasim and me," Arif said.
"Before that, I am handing over the post to a newly appointed person. These things are being done under an understanding between me and Leader Gasim”.
PPM-PNC candidate Muizz is first cousin to Ali Arif. Ali Arif's resignation comes after the JP decided not to form a coalition with any party in the second round of the presidential election.
