A 40-year-old man remains on a ventilator and a 16-year-old boy is receiving treatment in a hospital ward following a road accident in Malé on Sunday evening.
The incident took place in front of the Maafannu Bus Station when a speeding motorcycle collided with a pickup truck. A 17-year-old boy, identified as Yousuf Alsan, died in the accident. Alsan was the only son of musicians Mohamed Abdul Ghani and Mariyam Ashfa.
According to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the 40-year-old is being treated on a ventilator, while the 16-year-old is in a ward. The hospital confirmed their conditions are serious but did not provide further details.
Police said the accident involved a motorcycle that lost control and struck a pedestrian. One of the riders then fell under a moving pickup truck. A witness at the scene provided this account to a journalist.
Footage circulated on social media shows two individuals at the scene with visible head injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
