A person died in a traffic accident on the Hulhumalé-Malé highway on Wednesday night, according to the Maldives Police Service.
Police said the accident occurred on the lane leading from Hulhumalé to Malé near the airport traffic lights. Authorities received reports of the incident at approximately 10:12 p.m.
Preliminary findings indicate that the accident took place after a motorcycle skidded and fell onto the road. The individual was then run over by a pickup truck travelling nearby at the time of the incident.
Police confirmed the death of the individual involved in the accident. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
The case is under investigation.
