Man dies following motorcycle collision in Addu Hithadhoo

A man injured in a motorcycle collision in Addu City’s Hithadhoo district has died while undergoing treatment, according to information confirmed on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Abdulla Rameez, who was involved in the accident at around 9:30 p.m. last Sunday while travelling home after work.
Footage of the incident circulating on social media shows Rameez riding his motorcycle when a second motorcycle approached from the opposite direction and collided with him. The footage appears to show the second motorcycle travelling on the opposite side of the road before the crash.
Rameez was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.
According to information available, he suffered a skull fracture and head injuries in the collision.
After receiving initial treatment in Addu, Rameez was transferred to Malé the following day for further medical care. He underwent surgery at ADK Hospital but later died from his injuries.
The rider of the second motorcycle also sustained injuries in the accident.
A source familiar with the matter previously told Dhauru that the individual had also been transferred to Malé for treatment and that arrangements were being made for medical evacuation abroad.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.
