A PPM-PNC government will not appoint anyone into the cabinet under any influence, and that his cabinet will be comprised of experts with the education and experience in the field, the coalition's presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz said Tuesday.
On Sangu TV's Ask Muizz programme, a caller raised concern over the rumours that a PPM-PNC government will hand over the education ministry to religious conservative Salaf. Muizz was asked to clarify who will be appointed as his education minister.
In response to the question, Muizz first repeated his statement that he was not going to appoint a Salaf representative to the education ministry. He said that a person with education and experience in the field will be appointed to the ministry.
Muizz said he would rule in a way that would achieve the expectations of the people.
"Appoint my ministers under influence; I'm not going to do things like this. I'm very serious about this [coming to power]," Muizz said.
“We want to bring about real change and real progress for the people."
Muizz said that his goal would not be achieved by appointing someone who is "recommended" by a particular influential person.
"It can't be done upon anybody’s behest. When a certain party instructs it, or a certain person's proposal comes [to appoint people to positions]. I have to have confidence in that person. It has to be someone who can serve the people the way I want," be said.
"The person put in the cabinet will be, hopefully, a leader and active; technically educated and experienced in the field. We will hopefully form a very good cabinet that the people will be proud of."
Results of the September 9 election show main opposition PPM-PNC's Dr Mohamed Muizz leading the polls with 46%, while President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih secured 39%.
