Jumhoory Party (JP) presidential candidate Gasim Ibrahim's running mate Ameen Ibrahim and several other senior party leaders on Saturday announced their support to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the upcoming presidential runoff.
Ameen Ibrahim and former health minister Abdulla Ameen attended the MDP rally at Sosun party camp on Saturday evening.
In the first round of the election held on September 9, Gasim received 5,460 votes or 2.47%.
Gasim's running mate Ameen Ibrahim, and Abdulla Ameen, the first health minister of President Solih's government, have joined the president's campaign to support MDP in the second round of the election.
After discussions with the PPM-PNC and MDP, which went to the second round of the election, JP’s council meeting last week decided not to support any party in the second round of the election.
In a statement addressed to the party's general members, party leader Gasim Ibrahim said every member would have the opportunity to support the candidate of their choice without using the party's name.
