Police on Monday denied allegations that they are planning to smuggle drugs into PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz's house and conduct raids.

Police on Tuesday denied a report by opposition-aligned Channel 13 that they were planning to raid Muizz's house.

"The news of Channel-13 is untrue and a blatant lie to defame the service of the Maldives Police for political purposes," the police said in a statement.

Police have condemned irresponsible news reporting that undermines public confidence in the police service and urged people not to do things that violate basic standards of journalism.

The second round of the presidential election is now three days away. The MDP and PPM-PNC are making serious accusations against each other in the heat of the election peak.
