Machangoalhi South MP Ahmed Haitham resigned from the ruling MDP on Thursday.
Confirming his resignation a day before the second round of the presidential election, Haitham told Atoll Times that he quit the ruling party because of the government's failure to resolve several issues including those related to migrant workers and reforms needed for the National Drug Agency (NDA).
However, Haitham did not say what he would do next.
Funadhoo MP Moosa Siraj also left the MDP and joined the opposition PPM on Monday.
Besides Siraj and Haitham, Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Rasheed has also recently left the MDP.
However, Kulhudhuffushi North MP Yasir Abdul Lateef and Thoddoo MP Hassan Shiyan have rejoined the MDP.
With these changes, MDP currently has 55 MPs in parliament.
