The parliament on Monday opened for public comments on whether former Elections Commission member Ali Nashath should be given another term in the post.
Nashath's term expired on 25 July. However, before the expiry of the deadline, on May 29, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sent a letter to the parliament seeking approval for another term for him. The matter was referred to the Independent Institutions Committee of Parliament for consideration on the same day.
Before being appointed as a member of the EC, Nashath was a director of the EC.
The parliament secretariat said in a statement on Monday that it is open to public complaints regarding Ali Nashath, who was referred by the president to be appointed as a member of the EC.
Any complaints should be sent to the committee by email or in writing before 2 pm on Tuesday.
