State employees to get attendance allowance for holiday work

The incentive is available both by physically attending the office and by working online.

24 October 2023

The state pay framework has been amended to allow employees of state institutions to receive attendance allowance if they work on public holidays.

According to the previous pay framework, attendance allowance will be paid for every day that employees attend the office during official working days. The incentive is available both by physically attending the office and by working online.

But since last Tuesday, the application of the provision has changed.

  • Attendance allowance will be paid if an employee is on duty in the office on official holidays as well as official working days

  • Office attendance is defined as the employee physically attending the office and being 'signed-in' in case of remote work arrangements

  • Days of official trips to islands or abroad will be included in the attendance allowance

In addition, the rules have been amended to allow the employee to receive attendance allowance if they attend the office on Fridays and public holidays defined in the Employment Act and work at least half of the total official working hours on a regular work day.

Overtime pay shall be calculated by multiplying the hourly rate of basic salary by 1.5 multiplied by the time worked by the employee.
