The Ministry of Health has introduced a national ambulance service with a 24-hour call centre.

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem launched the national ambulance service at a ceremony held at Republic Square in Male on Wednesday.

National Ambulance Service:

  • The 24-hour call center number for this service is 100

  • The service will be provided in collaboration with the Operations Center and hospitals in the Male area

  • The service will be expanded to the provinces and ambulances and sea ambulances used in rural areas will also be added to the service

  • The ambulance will include the necessary equipment to provide treatment until the patient is taken to a health facility

Speaking at the ceremony after launching the service, Minister Naseem said he hoped that the burden on the public to seek emergency treatment would be reduced many times over.

“Instead of calling different numbers, we are making it easier to call just 1-0-0,” he said.

Naseem said the service will be launched by building a team trained to use the software and tools used in developed countries.

The most important task of the team, the minister said, will be to make the service trusted, accepted and sustainable for the people.

“God willing, 'One Zero Zero' will become a number of that proves 100[%] quality and service,” he said.

Giving further details about the national ambulance service, Minister of State for Health Ahmed Adil said the national ambulance service is being introduced along with a fleet of paramedic ambulances dedicated to the service and a 24-hour call centre.

“The main objective of the service is to attend to medical emergencies and accidents promptly, provide free hospital care services until they are taken to a health care facility and do all necessary work to save the life of the patient,” he said.

The service will start in the Male area, but Adil said the ministry plans to expand it to different parts of the country in the future.
