The government has released the final list of flat beneficiaries who have applied under the first phase of the government's Gedhoruveriya scheme for allotment of flats in the Greater Male Region.

Of these, 4,000 flats currently under construction are to be awarded for:

  • Two bedroom flat: 73 or above marks above

  • Three bedroom flat: For those who scored 76 or above

The first 4,000 flats are currently being built in Hulhumale by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC). The government gazetted an announcement on Saturday saying that all those who are not among the first 4,000 flat recipients but have been identified as eligible on the permanent list will receive the document through the landlord portal.

Those who qualify and do not receive the first 4,000 flats will be handed over the documents. They will receive a flat from one of the housing projects to be implemented by the government, the announcement said.

The 4,000 flats will be allocated to the eligible beneficiaries by a special lottery, the announcement said.

"The date and time of the draw will be announced through the portal," the announcement said.

The announcement added:

  • If a couple qualifies for the flat by applying separately, the flat will be given to one flat per couple

  • The couple will decide among themselves who will get the flat

A total of 20,697 people have applied for flats in the first phase under the Gedhoruveriya scheme. Of these, about 13,000 are eligible and will be given flats.

The government has so far been building 4,000 flats in Hulhumale by contracting two Indian companies.

  • The FDC has already said that one of the towers will be occupied before the end of this year

  • In addition, a project to build an additional 4,000 flats in the Malay area at a cost of USD 165 million (MVR 2.65 billion) has been awarded to India's Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL)

The opportunity to apply for land and flats under the second phase of the Binnveriya scheme and the Gedhoruveriya scheme was opened from September 23 to October 23. In that round:

  • 19,347 applications for land

  • 21,247 applications for flats

However, it is not yet known whether those who applied in the second round will be given the flat certificate in this round.
