Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has said that MDP’s "plan" to stop president-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu's swearing-in ceremony has failed.

Nasheed posted so on 'X' on Thursday evening after the Supreme Court ruled against the MDP's request to determine that nothing else can be done without deciding on the resolution of his dismissal.

The MDP has previously said it would not accept the swearing-in ceremony if the President-elect’s ceremony precedes the no-confidence motion against Nasheed.

“Thank God that the MDP's plan to stop the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect failed,” he said.

The MDP has already said it will not accept the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect if the ceremony is held without the vote of no-confidence in Nasheed, with him presiding over it.

The Supreme Court ruled that the no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament could be presided over by an ordinary member of Parliament in the absence of the Deputy Speaker.
