Problems resolved; EC members now united: Fuad

The Election Commission (EC) has resolved the differences that existed among the commissioners since six months ago and all five commissioners are now as a team, the commission's chairman Fuad Thaufeeg said on Monday.

Fuad and several other members of the commission had a dispute during the registration process of the Democrats Party, led by former President Mohammed Nasheed, last July:

Speaking to Atoll Times on Sunday, Fuad had revealed the problems had in fact, not been resolved, saying he was thinking of resigning from his post as he had differences of opinion with three EC members.

The three members are:

Fuad recently posted on 'X' that he has decided not to resign. “I am very much in the Elections Commission and I have not decided to resign. I would like to say that any differences that we had in the past are solved, and the 5 members are together as a team now”, he wrote in his post.

However, he did not give further details.

Amidst the disputes among the EC members at the time, a vote without legal backing was taken to remove Fuad from the post of the commission chairman. However, according to the Commission Act, that is not possible.
