The owner of the house has asked the Progressive Party of Maledives (PPM) to vacate the party office at the H. Hurafa house on Boduthakurufaanu Magu toward Artificial Beach, and hand over the building on Saturday.

The party office is functioning on the group and first floors of the Hurafa house. President Mohamed Muizzu, who contested and won the presidential election on a PNC ticket, has come to power, but the differences between the PPM-PNC are high. Former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has now quit the party and has started the process of forming a new party.

PPM spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed to Atoll Times on Saturday that the owner of the house has sent a letter asking the party to vacate the PPM office. She said the order to vacate the premises was issued on Saturday, but the reason for the order was unknown.

The letter ordering the vacation of the premises states that the agreement between the two parties is being terminated. The letter also said that the property had been leased at Yameen's request in the first place.

When reporters raised these questions in the party's WhatsApp group on Saturday, asking whether Yameen was making the place an office for his newly formed party, former minister Maleeh Jamaal said, "We are working in that direction”.

Yameen left the PPM last Thursday night, saying that the PPM has isolated and excluded him upon gaining power.

Yameen’s new party’s constitution, logo and name were approved on Friday and is now ready to be submitted for registration on Sunday. The name of the party has not yet been announced.
