The Senate of the Progressive Party of Maldives and Peoples’ National Congress or the PPM-PNC coalition has approved the resignation of former President Abdullah Yameen from the PPM.
The decision was taken unanimously at the joint Senate meeting of the two parties held on Wednesday evening.
The PNC Chairperson, who spoke at the press conference after the meeting, did not comment on the decision.
However, the Senate has approved the vacancy of the PPM-PNC leadership to be passed to President Muizzu, some members of the Senate tweeted on Wednesday evening.
Senator Zahid Rameez tweeted that the decision was taken unanimously by 103 members present at the meeting.
When contacted for further details, Abdul Raheem did not answer the phone.
The former PPM-PNC leader, Yameen, left the PPM on 23rd last month, less than a week after the government of President Muizzu commenced. With that, he launched a new political party called the People’s National Front (PNF).
