The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has started the construction of the remaining unfinished section of the Ameenee Magu project.

In March last year, the project, which was awarded to RDC, was delayed for various reasons and was completed by the end of the previous government. The project is divided into 13 segments and there are two remaining segments, numbered 12 and 13.

An official of the company told Atoll Times on Saturday that the work of the remaining two unfinished segments has started this morning. It will start from the unfinished area to the outer road of IGMH, he said.

“The two segments are expected to be completed within 45 days,” he said, which falls on January 23.

The Construction Ministry has held discussions with the RDC to complete the work. According to a statement issued by the ministry on Monday:

  • They discussed the difficulties that road users may encounter when the work starts

  • It was discussed to seek the assistance of traffic police to resolve the difficulties faced by RTL buses plying the route

Ameenee Magu Project:

  • The work was awarded for MVR 84.4 million

  • The then Planning Ministry, which had awarded the RDC the work to complete it in 210 days, delayed it and gave it a date of September this year

  • The work was not completed by that date and later it was said that the work would be carried out by the new government
