The remaining unfinished part of the Ameenee Magu project, which was started by the previous government, is being developed by further widening the road, the Minister of Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muthalib said.

In March last year, the project, which was awarded to RDC, was delayed for various reasons and was incomplete by the end of the previous government. Construction of the last segment of the project, which is divided into 13 segments, began on December

Minister Muthalib visited the area on Saturday to inspect the progress of the Ameenee Magu project.

In a post on 'X' after inspecting the work, the minister said the section under construction would be further expanded.

“The current section of Ameenee Magu is being widened as it large buses driv two-way down the road,” the minister said in the post.

The minister said the hope is to pave the sections and start using the road before the schools re-open.

An RDC official earlier told Atoll Times that the last section of Ameenee Magu will be completed within 45 days. He expected the work to be completed by January

Ameenee Magu Construction Project:

  • The work was awarded for MVR 84.4 million

  • The then Planning Ministry had delayed the work to be completed within 210 days and gave it a date of September this year

  • The work was not completed by that date either and later it was said that the work would be carried out by the new government
