The air ambulance service will be introduced from March next year, the government said on Monday.
The decision was taken after discussing the nine papers submitted by the Ministers to the Cabinet on Sunday.
The decision was taken at a press conference at the President’s Office on Monday.
"[The Cabinet] has decided to make all necessary preparations to introduce this service in Maldives from March 1. Two air ambulances will be prepared and the service will be available to the people in collaboration with Maldivian airline," said Nazim, who was the minister during Yameen’s tenure as well.
Nazim added that the service is already being provided by the Department of Emergency Ambulance Services under the Ministry of Health.
The launch of the air ambulance service was a presidential promise. Maldivian airline’s charter flights and Indian aircraft are currently used to transport patients from different parts of the country.
