Sports Commissioner Mohammed Tholal has ordered the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) elections to be stopped.
The Sports Commissioner has ordered the election to be suspended as several members of the FAM Executive Committee have resigned and the association is trying to hold the election despite the organisational upheaval within the problem-riddled association.
The Sports Commissioner said in a statement that he had received copies of the resignation letters sent by five FAM members.
The statement said:
-
Three of them resigned on the 15th of this month
-
One of the other two members resigned on September 16 and the other on October 5
-
The FAM General Secretary also resigned on November 24
The statement said that no member has been appointed to the post under the FAM rules and the date of announcement of the election of the FAM executive committee and the dates of resignation of the members are questionable.
The FAM Executive Committee has lost its quorum and is acting in violation of the association's rules of procedure.
The Sports Commissioner has ordered the FAM to suspend the election until a decision is taken in consultation with FIFA, AFC and the Maldivian Olympic Committee.
Former FAM president Ahmed Thorig and current president Bassam Adil Jaleel's exco member Mufawiz Hashim (Mufa) have also submitted their nomination papers.
