The regulations for 10-storey buildings in Villimale have been amended and the law has been sent to Parliament for amendment, President Mohammed Muizzu said on Saturday.
The ruling coalition's candidate for the Mayoral election, Azima Shukoor, has said that the government and the Parliament can work together to amend the building code.
The President said that the things that remained incomplete from what he decided to do for the people when he was Mayor were the things that needed collaboration from the then government. The President said that the regulations should be amended to allow the maximum height of buildings in Villimale to be 10 stories.

When President Muizzu contested for the Mayoral election, he promised to change the regulations to allow 10-storey buildings in Villimale
"Changing the planning regulations to allow 10-storey buildings on this island. That is being done through a change in the regulations by the Planning Ministry and a change in the relevant law that is being sent to the regulations Committee of Parliament," he said.
"The last five years have gone by, I was elected mayor and two years and half have tried repeatedly to make it happen. Now, we will be able to rectify it and the earlier detention from the planning ministry will not happen again. Now we have asked parliament to make amends."
The President said he would make it possible to build 10-storey buildings in Villimale.
"I hope the government will give its full cooperation to that. I am expecting the parliament to do it," he said.
In addition, the council's previous efforts to allocate land in Villimale have not been done due to the lack of cooperation of the previous government.
"Everything like this is connected to the council. I want to do this through the decentralization system”, the President said.
The President added on Saturday:
