Ismail Abdul Raheem, who was charged in both the murders of journalist Ahmed Rilwan and blogger Yameen Rasheed, has been appointed as a Deputy Director of Urbanco.
Atoll Times has confirmed on Wednesday that Ismail has now started working at his appointment. Some of the employees also confirm this.
As the appointment of Ismail, who was previously arrested and charged in the Rilwan and Yameen cases, started circulating on social media on Tuesday, some people criticized Urbanco and the government.
Urbanco could not be reached for comment on the matter.
Three people, including Ismail, were arrested in June 2022 in the Rilwan and Yameen case. A month later, Ismail was charged with two counts of aiding and abetting an act of terrorism.
However, the court dismissed the charges in November for lack of evidence. Ismail was tagged and released home.
