It is learned that, with that, the two men, who were tagged under a Monicon order and released to house arrest, have now been released. Ahmed Ismail, who was charged in the case, was also released on 12th last month. His case was also dismissed by the court, which ruled that there was not enough evidence to proceed with the case.

This is the first case to be investigated, sent to prosecution and filed in court by the presidential commission set up by the former president on the first day of his presidency to investigate unresolved deaths. Justice for the murders of Yameen and Rilwan is a promise of this government.

  • Two people were previously charged with terrorism in the 2014 murder of disappeared journalist Rilwan

  • Both were acquitted in 2018; The verdict is not appealed

  • The death commission said Rilwan was kidnapped and killed by al-Qaeda in Maldives.
