The High Court on Monday heard the appeal in the gruesome murder of blogger Yameen Rasheed.
The prosecution charged six people in the case, but only two were convicted of killing Yameen. They are:
-

-
2-
Ahmed Zihan Ismail, Lot 11399/Hulhumale
Five years after the murder, the Prosecutor General's Office (PG) decided to appeal only two of the four men acquitted by the Criminal Court in 2022. The two men are:
-
1-
Mohammed Difran, Sindbad-ge/G.Dh. Gahdhoo
-
2-
Ismail Rasheed M.Thaaif/Male
Two years after the cases were appealed in the High Court, the bench of judges announced that the appeals of the four would be conducted together.
When the time allotted for Monday's hearing expired, only the appeal points were filed on behalf of the two convicts. The bench announced on Monday that the appeal points filed by the prosecution will be heard at the next hearing.
Yameen Rasheed was killed on the night of April 23, 2017, in the stairwell of his house. The hearings in the Criminal Court were also prolonged.
The Criminal Court ruled that some aspects of the investigation had gone ‘careless’ and that the prosecution had been negligent.
