Imported baby feeding bottles and the silicone nipples used in it have been ordered to be registered by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).
MFDA issued an announcement on Thursday saying that breast milk alternatives and all the related appliances are allowed to be imported into Maldives only after registration on the agency's portal.
Though this has been in place since 2015, it has been observed that the products mentioned in the regulations are not being registered in accordance with the rules governing the import, manufacture and commercial use of breastmilk alternative products, the MFDA said.
In the rules, bottles and nipples are among the items required to be registered.
The MFDA has called on all businesses importing baby bottles and nipples to register with the agency starting from 31 July this year.
