President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that security forces personnel would receive salary increments from next month as promised by the government.
The new government has come under heavy pressure after it announced that salary increment for police and MNDF will be delayed due to the dire economic situation in the country.
The previous government had announced plans to offer the salary increment from the start of the new year.
However, the new government pushed back the plan saying that it could follow on the new pay framework from March.
Answering a question on the new public forum "Ahaa" where the public can directly pose questions to the president, he said the government would honor its pledge to boost salaries of security forces' personnel from next month.
Doubling the salary of the security forces remains his presidential pledge.
However, the president did not specify details of the pay increments police officers and soldiers would receive.
He had hinted earlier that the salary increment would be implemented in phases throughout his five year term.
