President Mohammed Muizzu has decided to monitor all sea vessels by installing tracking devices to prevent drug trafficking and drug smuggling across the country.
The President made the decision after discussing a paper submitted to the Cabinet by Homeland Security and Technology.
With the Cabinet advice, the President said on Sunday:

The Safety of Vessels Regulations will be amended to require the installation of a tracking device on vessels

The movements of the vessels will be monitored at the Maritime Operations Center of the Maldives Police Service and the Maritime Rescue Coordination of the MNDF
The President's Office said the decision to install vessel tracking devices was taken to facilitate the police to conduct operations to prevent drug trafficking and smuggling.
